Its been a while since I updated you all on my musical life! The end of last year was busy, I completed arranging and recording strings with Violeta Barrena for Elise Yuill’s incredible folk album and Bedriska Trio premiered Chris Brammeld’s wonderful Trio Op. 6 at Chapter House, Gloucester Cathedral. Soon after we performed the Brammeld, Howard Blake Trio and Rimsky Korsakov Trio for students at the Yehudi Menhuin Music School thanks to the massive support of Christine Talbot-Cooper of the Piano Trio Society, who organised this collaboration and recitals for us.
I also had the privelidge of mentoring the strings for another year for Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance on creative music course Animate Artists, directed by Sarah Freestone, music and Alesandra Seutin, dance. Animate Artists is a collaboration between talented young musicians and dancers. Between November 2016 and March 2017 we are creating a self composed/choreographed performance to premiere at Lewisham Live Festival at Laban Theatre on 21st March. We have held a workshop at the Tate Exchange to gain inspiration for the piece and we will revisit this space again in February to perform parts of our piece so far.
I am also excited to announce that I have been appointed the Music Mentor by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance to mentor 6 schools in southeast London on their own music and dance creation, also to be performed at Lewisham Live Festival.
This month I am preparing a set of Contemporary Solo Cello music to perform at eclectic music night The Phoenix Sessions. I will perform a piece which is new to me by Peteris Vasks which includes some singing as well! I will also perform works by George Crumb and Zoltan Kodaly. The performance will be streamed live online so check early February for a link to watch online!
In a couple of weeks I’m excited to be working again for ShareMusicSouthWest at The Calvert Trust on Exmoor. The brilliant Sam Chaplin will lead 2 days of creative music making for adults with disabilities, assisted by myself and the awesome Andy Pidcock and Raphael Clarkson, among others.
On 5th February the Edison Ensemble will kickstart a year of many events with another radio appearance on Resonance FM discussing “Metamodernist Osscillations” – questions of style and the value of artistic manifestos. And on 24th February we will perform a mixture of works for Cello, Piano and Electronics at Netherhall House, London including a premiere by Jakub Montewka.
Later on April 1st at 1pm I will be joined again by the talented Christopher Guild on piano, of the Edison Ensemble to perform a duo recital including Sonatas by Frank Bridge and Debussy.
This year I want to do more creative projects than ever, so get in touch if you have an interesting collaboration you’d like to work together on! Whether your a dance company, a singer songwriter or a classical artist wanting to perform chamber music. I love improvising, recording and performing so get in touch.
I wish you all an exciting, peaceful and creative 2017 X Miriam X
